A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday for driving under the influence after he crashed into an electricity pole in Cathedral City, authorities said.
Cathedral City Police Department officers responded at 2:29 a.m. to the intersection of Date Palm and Dinah Shore drives regarding a traffic collision. Upon their arrival, the officers found the driver, Erik Moyotl of Cathedral City, uninjured, determined he was intoxicated and arrested him, said Cmdr. Nate Hanley.
Due to the danger from the power pole being broken in half, all southbound traffic on Date Palm Drive at Dinah Shore has been diverted. Additionally, some nearby businesses experienced a loss of power from the damage to the power pole, police said.
The southbound lanes will remain closed until the scene is cleared.
