The Redondo Beach Police Department Annex building was sealed off Wednesday due to a potential hazmat contamination, police said.
Around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, personnel in the building detected an unusual odor in the office on the 200 block of North Pacific Coast Highway, between Vincent and Diamond Streets, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.
“Due to the unknown source of the odor, the building was evacuated and the Redondo Beach Fire Department responded to investigate,” the department said.
No other buildings in the vicinity were affected, but an adjacent parking lot was restricted, according to police.
Officers were being assisted by the Los Angeles County Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division.
The investigation was expected to continue for several hours.
