A debris fire that erupted Thursday in downtown Moreno Valley threatened several homes and other structures before it was stopped.
The non-injury “Birchwood Fire” was reported at 11:18 a.m. in the area of Birchwood Drive and Atwood Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said engine and truck crews were sent to the location and encountered a large debris pile in flames, with multiple “exposure threats,” including several homes, outbuildings and unattached garages.
Firefighters were able to get a line around the blaze before it reached the structures. However, a utility pole was impacted, according to reports from the scene.
The fire was completely contained at 11:45 a.m.
Crews were expected to continue mopping up until at least 1 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
