Sheriff’s personnel concluded their assistance with a burglary suspect holed up inside a location in Montebello Saturday morning, but it was unclear if that city’s police department took the suspect into custody.

“Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) has concluded their tactical response regarding the barricaded burglary suspect in Montebello,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement issued at about 8:20 a.m. Saturday. “Montebello Police Department will continue with their investigation into this mental health incident.”

A watch commander for the Montebello Police Department could not be reached for immediate comment.

The incident was first reported at 2:50 a.m. in the 300 block of North 19th Street. Surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents, according to the LASD.

A special enforcement team had assumed tactical command and crisis negotiation and mental evaluation teams were attempting to contact the suspect.
