Five motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, one for allegedly being under the influence of narcotics and 36 drivers were arrested for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license during a DUI stop Saturday in Riverside.
The DUI checkpoint was held at Arlington Avenue, east of Streeter Avenue, between 8 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Sergeant Daniel Macias of the Riverside Police Department.
In addition to the arrested drivers, 59 citations were issued and 863 vehicles were screened at the checkpoint, police said.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, the police department said The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
