Two people were arrested and 32 citations were issued during a DUI checkpoint in Palm Desert, authorities announced Saturday.

The checkpoint was held at Fred Waring Drive and Portola Avenue from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said that out of 792 vehicles contacted, 54 vehicles were subjected to secondary screening and eight field sobriety tests were conducted.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Don Olson, one person was arrested for DUI and possession of a loaded firearm and one person was arrested for a warrant for driving on a suspended license.

Additionally, 29 people were cited for driving without a license and three people were cited for driving on a suspended license.

The location of the checkpoint was determined from data of number of reported incidents regarding driving-related crashes, Olson said.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
