A pedestrian who was killed by a vehicle in Jurupa Valley was identified Friday.

Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station personnel received a notification of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in the area of Mission Boulevard and Soto Avenue at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department statement.

Upon arrival, deputies found a pair of pedestrians lying in the roadway, along with the driver, who remained at the scene, according to the department.

Although authorities attempted treatment and the two were transported to Riverside Community Hospital, one died while the other was admitted in critical condition, according to the statement.

A coroner’s report published Friday morning identified the pedestrian who succumbed to injuries as 42-year-old local resident Freddie Medina. Medical updates on the other pedestrian were not immediately available.

The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Team assumed the investigation from there. The cause of the crash was still uncertain, and it was not known whether drugs or alcohol played a role, the department reported.

Mission Boulevard was temporarily closed between Valley Way and Soto Avenue to allow officials to gather evidence from the scene.

Anyone with relevant information about the collision was encouraged to call Deputy Schwartz of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-955-2600.
