A vegetation fire burning Wednesday in Coachella was 50% contained, fire authorities said.
The fire was initially reported to be burning 15 acres around 3:24 a.m. Wednesday, with the blaze starting in the 47100 block of Tyler Street, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff Department were evacuating affected residents with structures threatened.
In an update at 7:30 a.m., the fire department noted the fire had been reduced to 11 acres and the forward progress had been stopped.
Two structures were destroyed in the fire, and the American Red Cross for Southern California region was requested for assistance.
No roads had been reported closed and no injuries were reported, according to the fire department.
