A fire that broke out Wednesday adjacent to the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley was stopped before threatening nearby businesses.
The non-injury Etiwanda Fire was reported at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Etiwanda Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard, near the on-ramp to the eastbound freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said five engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through dry brush amid strong Santa Ana winds.
The fire was bounded by roads, but crews were concerned about it spotting farther away due to the intense gusts.
As of 2 p.m., crews had partially contained the blaze, which was less than a quarter-acre, according to reports from the scene.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
