Deputies from the San Jacinto sheriff’s station announced Saturday they will conduct a driving under the influence checkpoint at an undisclosed location in San Jacinto next week.

The checkpoint will be held Jan. 17 from 8 p.m. to Jan. 18 at 2 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The location of the DUI checkpoint was determined based on data of impaired driving-related crashes in which impaired driving refers to substances like alcohol, over-the-counter medication, and marijuana.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI could face an average fine of $13,500 in fines and penalties, and a suspended license, the department said.

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety.
