Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, and one driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm following a driving under the influence checkpoint in Coachella, authorities announced Sunday.
The DUI checkpoint was held at Cesar Chavez Street and Avenue 50 from 7:30 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The checkpoint resulted in 23 drivers issued citations for driving unlicensed or with a suspended license out of 721 vehicles.
The location of the checkpoint was based on data of reported impaired driving-related crashes, said the sheriff’s department.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety.
