Torrance police Monday urged residents to remain vigilant as they continue investigating catalytic converter thefts.
The department offers tips for preventing such thefts, including:
— Parking within a well-lit area or a garage;
— Parking closer to a store entrance where there is more visibility while shopping;
— Requesting a muffler shop to secure your converter to the vehicle’s frame with welded brackets; and
— Selecting multiple types of catalytic converter theft deterrent systems at a local auto parts shop or an online vendor.
According to the Torrance Police Department, individuals committing catalytic converter thefts are sometimes armed.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and if they “see something, say something.”
