A fire that broke out Wednesday in a Moreno Valley house and spread to a neighboring residence caused significant damage to the first property, displacing the six occupants, none of whom were injured.

The blaze erupted just after 4 p.m. in the 24200 block of Millsap Drive, near Calada Drive, just south of the downtown area, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a single-story house, extending to the neighboring property.

Firefighters knocked down within a few minutes the flames that had jumped to the other house, and at 4:40 p.m., the blaze in the primary residence was contained, according to reports from the scene.

The fire caused damage throughout the first home, making it uninhabitable, officials said.

Six adults were displaced, and Red Cross personnel were summoned to assist them with finding temporary alternate lodgings.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
