Authorities Monday were searching for the motorist who struck and killed a 53-year-old woman walking on a Menifee street.
Lucia Delgado of San Bernardino was fatally hit shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday on McCall Boulevard, just west of Aspel Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said that Delgado was “in the roadway, in westbound lanes” when the driver of an unknown vehicle plowed into her at an unconfirmed speed.
“The driver failed to remain on scene and fled the area,” Coburn said.
Another motorist who came upon Delgado lying in the four-lane corridor called 911, he said.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived less than 20 minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
“Investigators are actively attempting to identify and locate the vehicle involved,” according to Coburn.
