A 48-year-old motorist was killed in a two-vehicle collision at a San Jacinto intersection, authorities said Tuesday.

Javier Lopez Montes of Hemet was fatally injured about 4:25 p.m. Monday at Quandt Ranch Road and State Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said Montes’ sedan impacted another while entering the intersection, but it was unclear which driver may have failed to yield.

Paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The other driver, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered unspecified non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment. Sheriff’s officials had no word on the party’s condition Tuesday.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Hemet station at 951-791-3400.
