Firefighters put out flames in a back house and protected a nearby apartment building in Highland Park Monday.

The fire was reported at 5:03 a.m. at 256 South Avenue 57, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

“The fire was in the front portion of the home and extended to a well involved attic fire,” Stewart said. “Crews defended the exposed apartment building from any damage. All occupants safely evacuated prior to LAFD arrival.”

It took the 32 firefighters 26 minutes to put out the flames, she said. No injuries were reported.
