The Cathedral City Police Department announced Friday that it will conduct a DUI enforcement operation next week at an undisclosed location in the city.
Additional officers are set to be on patrol from 6 p.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. next Friday, according to the department. They’ll be on the lookout for drivers who appear to be driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Police Chief George Crum said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Impaired driving also includes marijuana, some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs that could interfere with driving. A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.
