A Hawthorne man pleaded no contest Thursday to two charges stemming from an attack on an 11-year-old girl in Wilmington last year.
Jose Julian Jaime Jr., 30, is facing 11 years and 4 months in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration in connection with his no contest plea to one count each of forcible lewd act on a child under 14 and attempted kidnapping of a child under 14, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
He is due back in a Long Beach courtroom March 14 for sentencing.
Authorities said Jaime attacked the girl as she walked home from school Oct. 21 near M Street and Gulf Avenue.
The suspect, subsequently identified by authorities as Jaime, approached the girl from behind, fondled her breasts and tried to move her from the area moments before several nearby residents intervened, which prompted the suspect to flee, according to Los Angeles police.
Jaime was arrested two days later and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
