A transient woman was found dead Monday near a lifeguard tower on a Santa Monica beach, prompting an investigation.
Officers responded around 7:05 a.m. to the 1500 block of Ocean Front Walk after city beach maintenance workers reported an unresponsive woman near the waterline, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
Police said officers found the woman, believed to be in her thirties, with visible facial injuries.
Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Her identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives, and detectives were investigating the circumstances of her death.
