The 25-year-old man killed when a car cut in front of his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and hit a wooden telephone pole in the city of Industry has been identified, authorities said Monday.
He was identified as Manuel Leyva Mier, who died from blunt traumatic injuries, the Medical Examiner’s office said.
The collision was first reported to the California Highway Patrol at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Temple and Ruthcrest avenues.
The La Palma resident was riding a black 2016 Yamaha R6 motorcycle westbound on Temple Avenue east of Ruthcrest avenue when a westbound silver Kia Soul changed lanes in front of him, the CHP said. Mier lost control of the motorcycle and veered to the right where he struck the pole and was ejected.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department captain pronounced Mier dead at the scene, the CHP reported.
The Kia driver fled the scene, the CHP said. It was unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
Anyone with information was asked to call Officer L. Martinez at the CHP’s Baldwin Park Area Office at 626-517-8500.
