A man in his 40s died when he was shot in the stairwell outside a Hyde Park apartment, authorities said Tuesday.
The shooting was reported at 5:43 p.m. Monday in the stairwell outside 7116 and 7118 West Boulevard, according to a desk officer at the Los Angeles Police Department Operations Center.
The victim and a man believed in his 30s “exchanged words” in the stairwell and the younger man allegedly shot the other in the upper body and face, the officer said.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 6:04 p.m., he said.
A witness told officers she saw the suspect step over the victim and run upstairs and into an apartment, the officer said. There was no indication of an arrest.
