The source of smoke coming from a two-story building in Sun Valley Wednesday was later determined to be a lithium-ion battery, authorities said.
The smoke was reported just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 11700 block of West Saticoy Street, next to San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In 12 minutes, firefighters were able to eliminate the smoke emerging from one unit in the first floor, according to the LAFD.
One pet dog was being assessed for smoke inhalation.
Hazmat experts were en route to assist in the disposal of the battery.
