A property owner was injured and one of his dogs killed Thursday in a fire that erupted in a Home Gardens residence.

The blaze was reported at 11:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Meadow View Drive, near Indiana Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the two-alarm fire and encountered flames raging in the attached garage, extending into the attic and one of the rooms of the single-story house.

The two occupants escaped the structure by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews battled the blaze for roughly 30 minutes, knocking it down at 12:16 p.m., according to officials.

One of the two occupants, identified only as a man, suffered unspecified minor injuries and was taken to a Riverside hospital for treatment. The other occupant was not hurt, but the victims’ canine died in the blaze, officials said.

Red Cross personnel were summoned to assist the occupants with finding temporary alternate lodgings.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
