An investigation of a fatal wrong way, two-vehicle collision that killed one person and injured four in West Covina is underway, the West Covina Police Department said Saturday.
Officers from police department responded at 12:16 a.m. Friday to the 1700 block of West Puente Avenue between North Orange and North Sunset avenues regarding a traffic collision. A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a black Toyota sedan collided head on with a white Honda sedan, according to Sgt. Steven Spagon of the West Covina Police Department.
A man in the back seat of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene by West Covina Fire Department personnel.
Three injured passengers — two men and a woman — were listed in critical and stable conditions, respectively, with the third treated for their injuries at a hospital and released.
The driver of the Toyota sedan was also hospitalized and listed in critical condition.
The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the collision, Spagon said.
