Two people were injured Monday in a four-vehicle crash that caused an SUV to overturn on Interstate 215 near downtown Riverside.
The multi-vehicle collision was reported at 11:45 a.m. on northbound I-215, just south of MLK Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said two sedans, an SUV and a semi truck impacted at the location, but the exact cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
CHP officers shut down three of four traffic lanes because of the wreck.
Riverside Fire Department personnel reached the location just after noon and found two people with minor injuries, at least one of whom was in the SUV that rolled over, according to reports from the scene.
The victims, whose identities were not disclosed, were taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A SigAlert was issued at 11:55 a.m. because of the lane closures and ensuing traffic jam. As of 12:30 p.m., only the HOV lane remained accessible. However, officers were expected to begin gradually reopening all northbound lanes between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact the Riverside CHP office at 951-324-7210.
