A 58-year-old man was fatally struck while walking through the parking lot of Storm Stadium in Lake Elsinore, authorities said Monday.

Michael Ryan of Crestline was gravely injured just before 10 a.m. Sunday in the lot near Diamond Drive and Malaga Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said that Ryan was hit by a motorist traveling through the space at an unconfirmed speed. The driver, whose identity was not disclosed, immediately stopped and waited for deputies while witnesses called 911.

Paramedics reached the location within minutes and found Ryan with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Inland Valley Medical in Wildomar, where he received emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries roughly six hours later, according to coroner’s officials.

Deputies questioned the driver but did not arrest him.

Sheriff’s officials said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the fatality.

There was no event listed for Sunday at the stadium. It was unclear why the victim and motorist were there.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3300.
