A woman was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Department Sheriff’s deputies in Rosemead and an investigation of the shooting was underway Thursday.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Temple station were called about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday to the 8700 block of Scott Street, east of Walnut Grove Avenue, to investigate a neighbor dispute call, which was subsequently updated to a woman attempting to light the neighbor’s house on fire.

Arriving deputies encountered the suspect, who went into her home and refused to exit.

“During their investigation, (deputies) discovered evidence of the arson and an assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

Detectives from the sheriff’s Temple station continued the investigation at 12:30 a.m. Thursday. A search warrant was approved and served at the Scott Street location. That investigation also included a report of a barricaded suspect.

“During the search warrant service, the suspect was encountered inside the location,” according to the sheriff’s statement. “The suspect was armed with a large knife, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, said Lt. Michael Modica.

No deputies were injured during the shooting. There was no other immediate information and the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or go to lacrimestoppers.org.
