A suspect believed armed with a deadly weapon Friday ended a nine-hour barricade in an unincorporated area of Gardena, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The incident began at 10:15 p.m. Thursday in the 3100 block of 147th Street between Rosecrans and Marine avenues with deputies from the LASD’s Special Enforcement Bureau assisting deputies from the South Los Angeles Station with the suspect, the LASD reported.

SEB deputies took up positions around the location in a residential area and a Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to make contact with the suspect.

At 7:30 a.m., the LASD reported the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, and that all residents in the neighborhood who were evacuated were allowed to return to their homes.
