A magnitude-4.1 earthquake occurred Sunday about 7.7 miles northwest of Malibu, rattling nerves across Los Angeles County.

The quake struck at 1:03 p.m. at a depth of about 7.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was followed by a series of aftershocks in the same general area, estimated at magnitudes of 2.5, 3.0 and 2.8, the USGS reported.

No damage was immediately reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart told City News Service that the temblor was not significant enough to activate the department’s earthquake mode.
