A 36-year-old Good Hope man is in custody Monday after allegedly stabbing another man, authorities said.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded at 7:45 a.m. Sunday to the 21000 block of Mountain Avenue following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies found a man with “traumatic stab wounds” and secured the scene before turning the case over to investigators, the department said in statement.

The injured man was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition as of Monday morning, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators identified the suspect as Salvador Ortiz, who was found at the scene and taken into custody, according to the RCSD.

Inmate records show that Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and he is currently being held at Murrieta’s Southwest Detention Center on $1 million bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information was encouraged to contact Lead Investigator Lance Colmer at Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch at 951-776-1099 or the Perris Station at 951-210-1000.
