A man and woman were charged Tuesday with abusing a baby boy in Stanton.
Antonio Coronado Jr., 32, and Janina Bernal, 33, were charged with eight felony counts of child abuse and endangerment, with sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury on a child younger than 5. The two pleaded not guilty at their arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana Tuesday and were scheduled to return to court April 3 for a pretrial hearing in the West Justice Center in Westminster.
According to the criminal complaint, the boy sustained injuries including subdural hematoma, rib fracture, ankle fracture, retinal hemorrhages, craniocervical injuries, body bruises, facial injuries, and occiput abrasion.
Further details were not immediately available from sheriff’s deputies. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
