An armed robbery suspect was fatally shot in Walnut Park Wednesday by South Gate police.
Officers were initially dispatched to investigate an armed robbery and located the suspect around 12:30 p.m. near Walnut Street and Seville Avenue, according to the South Gate Police Department.
It was unclear what prompted police to open fire on the suspect. Video from the scene showed an SUV in which the suspect was apparently found, and at least two handguns on or near the vehicle.
Multiple evidence markers were also visible on the ground, likely showing the location of shell casings.
No details of the original armed robbery were immediately available.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau took over the shooting investigation Wednesday afternoon.
