A 21-year-old transient man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of burglary in Palm Desert.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Palm Desert Station responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. to the area of Oxford Lane and Harvey Mudd Drive regarding a suspicious person trying to open the front door of a residence, according to the sheriff’s department.

The suspect fled on foot, but deputies found him in the area, authorities said.

The suspect was later identified as James Jones of Desert Hot Springs. He was detained without incident and was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion on burglary.
