A fire at a three-story apartment building under construction in the Westlake District near downtown Los Angeles that extended to a vacant single-family dwelling and two sheds was extinguished after nearly an hour Thursday.

Fire crews responded at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday to the apartment building at 138 N. Carondelet St. between Beverly Boulevard and Council Street, where they found the building was well involved with fire and the flames had expanded to a nearby building, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

It took over 100 firefighters 58 minutes to extinguish the flames.

NBC 4 reported a family of seven and another family of four were displaced by the fire.

One man was treated by paramedics at the scene for a medical condition.
