Police sought the public’s assistance Thursday in locating a hit-and-run driver who severely injuring a pedestrian in the Westlake area.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred around 10:45 a.m. Dec. 13 when the driver of a white Nissan Xterra reversed southbound on Burlington Avenue and struck a pedestrian walking across the street.

The driver failed to stop and was last seen driving toward Wilshire Boulevard, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries described by police as severe.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency service, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.

The city offers a standing reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the identity, arrest, and conviction of suspects in injury hit-and-run crashes.
