A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles and police Tuesday are searching for the driver.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to the 9600 block of Figueroa Street and West Colden Avenue at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday, where they learned the driver was traveling north on Figueroa at a high rate of speed when they struck the driver, who was crossing the street, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

The pedestrian — whose name, age and gender were not immediately known — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene without stopping. There was no vehicle description.

The LAPD’s South Traffic Bureau will be in charge of the investigation of the fatal collision.
