Two women were killed and multiple people were injured early Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles where one vehicle struck an electrical pole before crashing near a Chevron gas station.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday to Century Boulevard and Normandie Avenue regarding a collision involving a sedan and a white Honda CRV, NBC 4 reported. The sedan crashed into a pole and the SUV sustained significant front end damage.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene and multiple victims were taken to a hospital in unknown conditions, California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Nasir told City News Service.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner identified one of the victims Wednesday as 45-year-old Maria Caamal.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
