The investigation is continuing Sunday into the shooting death of a man in downtown Long Beach, close to where the Long Beach Grand Prix IndyCar race was taking place.
The shooting was reported at 5:50 p.m. Saturday near Pacific Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, where officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, Long Beach Police Department officials said.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The officers appeared to detain at least one person amid a heavy police response, according to the Long Beach Post, but it was unclear whether that person or anyone else was arrested.
Homicide detectives cordoned off nearby streets as the investigation continued, but the Grand Prix was uninterrupted.
