A 59-year-old man who had gotten out of the SUV he was driving was struck and killed Monday by a big rig while running on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley, authorities said Monday.
The crash occurred at about 9:25 a.m. Sunday near the Sunland Boulevard off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The SUV driver was identified as 59-year-old Alan Hartley, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office. His city of residence was not available.
A Sigalert closing all lanes of the northbound freeway in the vicinity of the crash was issued at 9:48 a.m. and canceled at 1:11 p.m., according to the CHP.
