A police officer shot and killed a dog in Pasadena while responding to a woman who needed medical help, authorities said Wednesday.
Just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, a passerby reported a woman lying incoherent on the ground near an unleashed dog in the 400 block of South Hudson Avenue, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
One of the responding officers who failed to notice the dog in the dark was charged at, police said, prompting him to shoot the animal.
The shooting took place before animal control personnel reached the scene.
No one else was injured in the shooting, authorities added, and the woman was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
