A checkpoint this weekend resulted in two people being arrested for driving on a suspended license, 24 cited for driving without a license and authorities impounding one vehicle, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

The inspection took place starting at 8 p.m. Friday and lasted until 3 a.m. Saturday on Hamner Avenue and Goodman Way, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies screened 670 vehicles, 72 of which underwent a second screening, according to the department. Three people underwent field sobriety tests.

Authorities said checkpoint locations “are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.”

The checkpoint was paid for by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
