A 23-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to four years behind bars, or time already served, for shooting two 17-year-old boys in Laguna Hills, leaving one victim in critical condition.
Luis Angel Martinezmondragon of Aliso Viejo pleaded guilty in June 2023 to two felony counts of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Derek Johnson sentenced the defendant to four years in prison while also giving him that amount of credit for time served in Orange County Jail.
As part of the plea deal, two felony counts of assault with a firearm were dismissed.
The shooting occurred about 10:05 p.m. April 23, 2023, in the 25000 block of Alicia Parkway near the Laguna Hills Community Center, deputies said.
The victims were rushed to a hospital and survived.
A quinceañera party was occurring at the community center when the shots rang out, deputies said.
Multiple other drug cases pending against him were dismissed two years ago, but he pleaded guilty to possessing a deadly weapon in a case dating back to December 2021 and pleaded guilty to felony vandalism in another case dating back to December 2022.
