A man is in custody Tuesday after he led police on a chase that started in Chino and ended with his arrest by California Highway Patrol officers in Compton.

The pursuit began when police there attempted to stop the suspect after he rammed his SUV into a Chino Police Department cruiser around 10:40 p.m. Monday and sped away on the Pomona (60) Freeway, ABC 7 reported.

The suspect led officers on a chase from the 60 Freeway to the Long Beach (710) Freeway before leaving the freeway and driving on surface streets into East Rancho Dominguez and then into nearby Compton, KTLA 5 reported.

CHP officers executed a PIT maneuver near the intersection of Atlantic and Rosecrans avenues, which slowed the suspect down as he then drove to South Atlantic and Compton avenues near Compton before stopping.

CHP officers boxed the driver in at South Atlantic and Compton, where officers drew their guns and waited for the driver to surrender.

Around 10 minutes later, officers broke the driver’s side window took the suspect into custody.

CBS2 reported the driver was wanted for assault on a police officer and possibly for driving under the influence.
