One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi truck on the San Diego Freeway in Long Beach near Signal Hill, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

The CHP reported the collision occurred at 11:01 p.m. Thursday at the Atlantic Avenue on-ramp of the southbound freeway and when CHP officers arrived at the scene, they found the semi, a box truck and two sedans with significant damage, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Debris from the collision was scattered across multiple lanes of the freeway, according to reports from the scene.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the Atlantic Avenue off-ramp and three lanes of the freeway for several hours, Kravig said.
