Five people were stabbed Monday at a sober living home in Riverside, leaving one person in critical condition and a blood-soaked suspect in custody, according to Riverside police and reports from the scene.

The stabbing was reported just before 4 a.m. in the 3800 block of Fourth Street, near Fairmont Boulevard in downtown Riverside, according to Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback.

Broadcast reports identified the home as Elmer Day Sober Living.

A witness at the scene said the suspect chased people into the street and then ran back inside the home.

Railsback said the suspect was a resident at the home who is believed to have stabbed five housemates.

All five victims were taken from the scene in ambulances. One was in critical condition, Railsback said.

The suspect remained barricaded, with a special enforcement team outside, for about two hours before being taken into custody, Railsback said. The alleged attacker was covered head to toe in blood when arrested, Key News Network reported from the scene.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital.

A motive for the attack was not immediately known.
