A motorist carjacked near downtown Norco Monday was fatally injured when the perpetrator dragged the victim while making his getaway.

The deadly carjacking was reported at about 12:20 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of Hidden Valley Parkway, less than a mile east of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said witnesses observed a man forcibly taking the victim’s car, jumping into the driver’s seat and speeding away on the four-lane corridor with “the vehicle owner partially inside the rear seat.”

“The victim was dragged and ejected from the vehicle,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

Patrol deputies converged on the location moments later and found the man, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, lying in the roadway, suffering grave injuries. He was taken to a regional trauma center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to sheriff’s officials.

“The stolen vehicle was located, and the person believed to have been involved detained,” according to the agency.

The suspect’s identity was not released Monday afternoon.
