A vehicle may have struck and killed a pedestrian who had been lying in Long Beach roadway prior to the crash.

Officers dispatched about 2:40 a.m. Thursday to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of East Seventh Street and Channel Drove located the pedestrian in the roadway, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a 28-year-old resident of Garden Grove was traveling eastbound on East Seventh Street and struck a pedestrian who was lying in the roadway,” according to a police statement. “The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.”
