A man suspected of stabbing a woman to death in a domestic violence attack in North Hollywood was shot and killed Friday by Los Angeles police officers within earshot of children playing at a nearby elementary school.

Officers responded to the 7800 block of Beck Avenue, a couple blocks south of Strathern Street, just before 1 p.m. Friday following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers found a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Police said the officers “made contact with the suspect,” which led to a police shooting. The suspect was taken to a hospital following the shooting, where he was also pronounced dead.

Details surrounding the shooting were still under investigation Friday afternoon, but ABC7 reported that the fatal shooting was heard by students on a playground at Arminta Street Elementary School, who ran inside when they heard gunfire.

The names of the suspect and victim were being withheld pending notification of their relatives.

No officers were injured.
