A person drowned Thursday while swimming in Lake Perris, though the exact circumstances remained unclear.
The drowning was reported shortly before 1 p.m. in the vicinity of the north end of the reservoir, according to Lake Perris State Recreation Area officials.
Riverside County Fire Department crews were sent to the location to assist life guards with recovering the victim’s body, which reportedly could not be immediately found due to water visibility.
The swimmer’s identity was not disclosed.
It was unknown whether the sheriff’s dive team might be needed for the recovery effort.
The circumstances behind the drowning were under investigation.
