One of two men fatally shot in the Manchester Square area of Los Angeles over the holiday weekend was identified Tuesday by the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim — 48-year-old Kevin Ball, whose place of residence was not provided — was shot around 6:25 p.m. Saturday at Florence and Dalton avenues, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The name of the second man killed, described only as being in his 20s, has not been released.

LAPD Officer Jeff Lee told City News Service that both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Aerial video from NBC4 showed two white canopies set up in an alley where the bodies were located.

A woman, initially believed to be about 35 years old, was also struck by gunfire and was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs, according to a desk officer at the LAPD’s Operations Center.

Patrol officers reported witnessing two suspects open fire into a crowd gathered in the alley before fleeing the area, the desk officer said. A perimeter was quickly established, and officers — assisted by a police helicopter — began searching for the suspects.

One suspect was taken into custody and another was barricaded inside a location, the officer said. The second suspect was later taken into custody during a subsequent search within the established perimeter.

It was not immediately clear if the shooting was considered gang-related.

Anyone with any information regarding the shooting was urged to call the LAPD’s 77th Street Division station at 323-786-5077 or 877-527-3247 during non-business hours or on weekends. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
